Hi, just to let people who may not know about the implicit thread in 'Treasure'. Hayley sang 'Danny Boy' at the New Zealand  commemorations of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli. So there is an element of Remembrance in many songs in 'Treasure' for our boys lost in World War I & II, Korea, and Vietnam. Just these last few weeks New Zealand celebrated 'Tribute 08' - the official recognition of New Zealand's Vietnam War Veterans - which encompassed a formal government apology for the failure to acknowledge their service upon their return - and an acknowledgement of the post-vietnam suffering caused by 'Agent Orange'.

The songs in 'Treasure' speak to the loss of thousands of loved New Zealanders - part of our 'ANZAC Day' and 'Tribute 08' commemorations.

I enclose the words of Prime Minister Massey - when New Zealand answered the call to arms with her sister Canada:

"New Zealand to-day, in common with other Dominions and Dependencies, stands true to the best traditions of the Empire, and will loyally shoulder in this hour of national crisis her share of Imperial responsibility. The Dominion to a man has one motto - For King, Country, and Empire."

"The interests of the Dominions of the Empire are one and inseparable. We have put our hand to the plough, and there will be no looking back in this hour of national crisis. New Zealand stands hand in hand with sister Canada and the other Dominions and Dependencies of the Empire."

"The Evening Post", August 7 1914.

All the songs have something about Haley', and New Zealand's, love for 'our fallen'.

Idiosyncratic foibles of her diction aside - Abide with me - the fav track! No apologies the spelling change "Heaven's Morning" becomes "Heaven's mourning" - simply because it makes more imaginative sense. I wonder whether the audio and orchestral tracks were mixed separately - that could account for some of the variation - kind of a 'blue screen / green screen' singing without orchestra / musicians playing without singer - kind of confusion. But most importantly have a go...go on...sing it too...feels awesome!

ABIDE WITH ME.

Abide with me,
Fast fall the eventide,
The darkness deepens,
Lord with me abide.

When other helpers fail,
And comforts flee,
Help of the helpless,
O abide with me.

Swift to its close,
Ebbs out life’s little day,
Earth’s joys grow dim,
Its glories pass away.

Change and decay,
In all around I see,
O thou who changest not,
Abide with me.

Hold thou thy cross,
Before my closing eyes,
Shine through the gloom,
And point me to the skies,

Heaven’s mourning breaks,
And Earth’s vain shadows flee,
In Life, In Death,
O Lord, abide with me.

Kia Ora,

I love all the songs on the album Celtic Treasure. They are all sung by Hayley in her usual excellent
voice. My particular favourite is 'Let Me Lie', which is an original song written by Hayley. It explains Hayley's perceived connection with Mother Earth and mine. As I am writting this I am listening to 'Let Me Lie'on my Ipod.

As a proud Kiwi with Kiwi blood and Kiwi relatives I have to congratulate Hayley on her music and her voice,  on her success and on her Kiwi Ingenuity. Hayley I wish you luck on all your future pursuits and the paths you travel down!

As for me, I am heading home to New Zealand for my holidays in 10 days time for 2 and a half weeks to visit our wonderful country, which is in my opinion the best in the world, and my relatives.
Then I am heading across the ditch to Australia for 2 weeks before heading back to the UK.

Here I leave you Hayley and all with a choice Maori proverb.

May the calm be widespread
May the ocean glisten as greenstone
May the shimmer of light
Ever dance across your pathway

God Defend New Zealand.

Sweet As.
